Alexa LammWhat is your favorite project or part of the PIE Center?

I love the diversity of projects the PIE Center works on so it is difficult to pick just one. I’m a person who loves diversity on the job, so working on water issues one day, labor issues the next, and then jumping into critical thinking/problem solving is fun for me. More than anything I love that our work is applied and makes a difference to those we serve.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a variety of projects. The main emphasis of my primary projects are water issues – the water public opinion research, the development of a Watershed Stewards Academy with a group of extension specialists and agents, a USDA grant on water conservation, etc. I am also working on a grant with FAMU addressing youth understanding of the role school/community gardens play in food security and battling childhood obesity and an NSF grant examining how to engage students in STEM education to ensure a future agricultural workforce.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I am a swimmer and went to college on a full ride scholarship to swim.

What are you afraid of?

Snakes – and no matter how I try I can’t overcome it!

What is a fun fact that no one may know about you?

I can team rope – both head and heel.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

I would love to fly.

If someone asked you for a random piece of advice, what would it be?

Since I just had my first daughter, I would say that being a parent is the best thing I have ever done. For those career men and women out there waiting for the right time to start your family, there is never a right time, just go for it!

What are your hobbies?

Spending time with family, horseback riding and travel.

If you could meet anyone in history, who would it be?

I would love to meet my grandmother that passed away before I was born. From what I hear, we are a lot alike and it would have been wonderful to have been able to know her.

What is your favorite type of PIE?

Strawberry pie on a hot summer day.
