PIE Center makes strong showing at national conference

About of the PIE Center team traveled to the Association for Communication Excellence Conference in Indianapolis last week, making the University of Florida the most-represented and active school.

PIE Center forms first advisory board

A 15-member advisory board has been assembled to aid the PIE Center in shaping, refining and achieving the center’s mission, vision and goals.

Easy as PIE webinars save money, environment

Six months of Easy as PIE webinars have saved attendees and their organizations thousands of dollars in salary and fuel savings and protected the environment from several metric tons of harmful carbon dioxide emissions.

- Former master’s student Laura Conaway graduated in May after successfully defending her thesis, which was based on her work with the PIE Center exploring the use of Florida MarketMaker, an online tool that seeks to connect producers with consumers, businesses and retailers.

Residents hungry for more information about local food production

Residents in southwest Florida strongly support agriculture but say their opinions would improve if farmers provided more information about what they do, according to a recent survey by the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education.
Working with agricultural industry leaders in the five-county region, PIE Center researchers found that 94 percent of survey respondents believe the agricultural industry was important to the region. Continue reading.

Sayings from the land grant symposium

“Bricks and Mortar in a Digital Age: The Uncertain Future of Higher Education” capped a yearlong celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act, which created land grant universities. Faculty, administrators, students and professionals discussed the challenges and opportunities facing higher education such as financial support and rising costs, as well as the lure of an online education compared to the human element at a bricks-and-mortar university campus.
